Bringing home your kitten!!!  It's exciting, you have anticipated this for days, weeks, months or maybe even years.....

But, remember your new little furball is still just a baby in a big world.

Some tips to make transition easier on your new baby.

  • Have the most important things ready.  Food/Water, Litterbox, Bed or something cozy, a couple toys. Leave the carrier set up in the room you choose.

  • If you have other animals and even if you don't keeping the kitten confined to one room for the first few days to a week to let them become accustomed to their new surroundings.

  • Let your other animals and new kitten introduce themselves by smell.  They can get to know each other a bit before formal interaction just by being able to pick up the scent of their soon to be friend(s).

  • Make sure your kitten knows where the litterbox is.  A good idea is to place the kitten in the litter box first thing, let the kitten exit the litter box on their own so they know where to go back to and do their business.

  • You will want to monitor that they are eating and drinking.

  • Make sure they are using the bathroom.  It is common for a kitten to become constipated or the opposite (diarrhea) transitioning into a new home.  Don't fret, give it some time.
